Frustrated to see the Windows 7 Ultimate to Windows 10 pro update still failing and removing Windows 7 validation.

Sons computer went through this process and failed with the original upgrade all that time ago. So went back to 7.

But foolishly wasted 10gb of mobile data using phone as a hotspot, as he is offline but needed to update steam n a game to play before I foolishly thought Windows 10!

Went well, restarts etc. Windows 10 logo. But then the http://www.windows.com/stopcode page pops up with a page fault in nonpaged area.

What failed. netr28ux.sys

Upon restart it stated an error during the second boot stage, during migate data operation.

Now the system states non genuine W7. Not wanting to revalidate until 10 is installed.

I would have thought the relevant files downloaded, anyone know of a simpler solution. Not got the data this month to download it all again, but need a more foolproof way to upgrade.

The majority of files are game related, two accounts and various free programmes with the OS on a 128gb ssd and documents/pics/games on a 1tb hdd.

Am I better downloading an iso and just starting fresh. Though can't do the majority of games installs until proper internet is back.

Peeved at myself for just trusting the automatic setup.

I'd want to go for a clean install from an ISO. Fine, it might munch up about 4GB of your data allowance, but it might save you more data in the long run by not wasting any more data.

If data allowance is tight and you want to minimise your chances of hitting your allowance limits, ask a friend to download the ISO, compress it using 7-Zip and send it to you. You could save around 200MB this way. Or if you can wait, ask a friend to burn the ISO to disc and post it to you.

Well I can pop into the library and download the windows 10 iso.

But what am I to do now his Windows 7 is not valid and the product key gone. Can't even get any result using cmd as admin wuth the following

wmic path SoftwareLicensingService get OA3OriginalProductKey

Gives me not found or invalid querry.

The computer has ran a valid install of Windows 7 Ultimate 64bit for years. Through various rebuilds. But I have no idea where the code is.

What happens if I attempt again the Windows 10 update with an iso on DVD if the original update invalidated the Windows 7 install?
