Windows 7 to 8 licensing question

Can't seem to find an answer... with the changes to OEM licensing in Windows 8, what would happen if I bought a Windows 7 OEM that I later upgraded to Windows 8? (ie. bought the Upgrade Edition for 7 to 8) would I still be bound by the Windows 7 OEM licensing or would it be Windows 8 licensing?

I'm going to assume you mean if you apply a retail upgrade to an OEM version of Windows does it then become transferable? In which case, no. You can move the upgrade onto another PC but the original OEM license is still attached to the hardware.

Although if you're a home user you won't ever get audited so it makes sod all difference - if it activates then you're all good.

Sorry I probably wrote that kind of badly.

Windows 8 changed OEM licensing so that the OS can be installed on another system and it's not tied to your hardware. Windows 7 however is, so if I bought Windows 7 OEM that will tie the key to the hardware, however if I use an upgrade edition on top of that to upgrade to Windows 8, would I still be bound to the older Windows 7 OEM license or would I be able to use the Windows 8 license which would cover any replaced motherboards or parts?
