Hey all

Gonna be building a new pc in the next week and I have a spare windows 7 licence.

Will I have to install 7 and then do a massive ton of upgrades to get the upgrade option to windows 10 option?

Or is there a quicker way ? Like install basic 7 and then stick the USB windows 10 USB drive in and install straight away ?

I `think`that you can now download the latest W10 iso then activate with your W7 key, depending on what version your W7 is.oem or retail :)

Jimlad, I believe, and i might be wrong.. i think you have to generate your windows 10 licence key from a windows 7 installation as a one off . MS has to change the registered so that it knows it's now a windows 10 key..

You can force a windows 10 upgrade without doing all the thousands of updates.. I did this recently on a laptop the was brought to me.

I did a straight install with a couple of Windows 7 Pro licenses on a couple of laptops I own without first upgrading to Windows 10 and that worked so I would have thought this should not be necessary.

OK so I can install windows 7 and then just whack the USB windows 10 in ... upgrade and then do a clean install if I want

This, I just straight installed 10 on my dad's laptop, plugged in the 7 key on the sticker, and boom activated. Didn't have to do the upgrade from 7 update first.

EDIT: Did this because I was also swapping out the slow HDD for my old SSD.
