infornt of my PC
I have a windows 7 pro 64 machine that is to be retired and I am building a new machine.

My trusty old PC has masses of installed applications all tweaked, and set up just perfectly. Not to mention windows is customised to my liking.

To rebuild manually will make me cry as its going to take weeks if not months to go through every app and put everything back just so.

Starting with a clean machine, what is the best way to migrate from my old machine to the new one?

I am assuming I can't just transfer a windows image file from A to B and then run a restore?

Any suggestions?

Follow this.

If the Windows 7 licence is OEM, then you will need to get a new licence key (which can be entered during the above process) to remain licence legal and to guarantee re-activation.
If you have a retail licence then you can just reuse the old key.
