I have just installed Win7 ultimate on a HDD that had Win7 on it already due to certain reasons.
Now since i put Win 7 on it again i just overwrote everything but according the HDD properties my 250 gig hdd has only got 130gig remaining.
I have installed nothing but the OS so how can this be??

Do you have a c:\Windows.old folder? It might have moved the old install there.

Run SpaceSniffer on the drive and all will become clear :).

Yes i found the folder you mentioned.
I tried deleting it all but it kept saying that the file was too large for the recycle bin so what do i need to do to delete it.

Thanks.

It should give you an option of permanently deleting it (the same as pressing shift+delete on the folder) rather than moving it to the recycle bin.

Just check there's nothing in there you want first.

Thanks for that, i did as you suggested and it worked and gave me back loads of disk space.

My biggest gripe with any Windows install is the amount of Windows Updates that appear afterwards.

I primeraly did a reinstall due to the fact that when i installed service pack 1 as part of a Windows Update when it was released earlier this year it never booted again as it had the BSOD when Windows tried to launch an no amount of fettling sorted it.

Delete everything in the following folders:
C:\Users\<replace this text with username>\AppData\Local\Temp
C:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution\Download
C:\Windows\Temp

Leave automatic updates on I guess you won't need to worry about them too much. Surprised that SP1 gave you problems, probably a dodgy driver or something causing them - when a BSOD happens it (usually) saves a minidump file which can be read (by people on here) to figure out the cause of the crash.
