Windows 7 updates not working

Hi just done a clean instal of windows 7 but the updates will not work all the internet is working etc any ideas please

Are the time and date settings correct?

When you check for updates does it come up with an error code? Googling that should give some results. Thought it might be the time and date settings which has stopped me getting updates on a number of occasions.

"Not working" isn't exactly much to go on. What exactly happens and are there any error codes?
