Ok im at work over xmas :( but have been told that windows 7 home premium upgrade is waiting for me when i get back :) I have vista 64 bit already installed and am wondering is it just a case of putting in the disc, typing the key code and wait?! Does anyone have any advice/tips having done the same upgrade path? I take it I wont have to back up all my files as they wont be affected by the install?

I didn't do an upgrade, I did a clean install so can't give you experience on that I'm afraid, but I would strongly recommend backing up important files at the very least to be on the safe side.

Personally I only ever do a clean install to avoid issues, but it all depends on how you use your PC and how much of a problem a reformat and install would be if things didn't go to plan. If your Vista 64 has been installed for a while then a clean install may be worth it to get rid of the clutter (registry especially) that we get over time.

Definitely backup your data though even for an upgrade install.

Backup is my number 1 tip.

I would personally fresh install but give the upgrade a try if you wish as it is much more like a fresh install than the old "upgrade" path.

I always keep all of my data on a backup, anything i get goes straight on there, in my experience, upgrades just create problems, just do a clean install.

Ok guys will go with a clean install of windows 7 and back everything up. I dont want any hassle with it! Might be a good time to get a ssd for my OS too!
