Windows 7 upgrade... did i miss a step in the install?

As i was saving for a house, i had Windows 7 on the list of stuff i wouldnt mind getting for xmas. The In-laws kindly bought me Windows 7 but it was the Upgrade version. I only just installed it (decorating everything takes time!) and it went on fine but never asked for a previous serial number.

Now, it installed onto what WAS my D drive (just booted to the CD and chose that drive as i want to take what was the C and E out later) and everything is working fine and it never asked for an old serial or anything.

did i miss something? or would it have seen a previous install on another drive?

It detects a previous install automatically. As long as it activated OK then there is nothing to worry about.

Just remember you cannot use the old OS anymore on a different computer.

Install the original OS first then upgrade. Or search a bit for ways around that

Could have done an clean install using the upgrade version,

Or you can still duel boot using the XP disc that came with the system.
