My Dad's computer has the following specs....

Pentium 4 3.2
Gigabyte GA-8IPE1000G
Antec EA-650W Power Supply
2 GB Corsair DD400
Maxtor 6B300SO 300GB Serial ATA HD
Radeon X1950 Pro

He wants to upgrade from XP to Win7 but is not sure if the computer is powerful enough ?

I also have Win 7 and was wondering whether it would be cheaper to just buy an additional licence for the same disc ?

Also whether it would have to be 32 bit rather than 64 bit ?

Finally I was thinking of buying a new Sata drive for his machine and installing Win 7 on there rather than format the old drive first.

Would you still be able to buy a compatible drive ?

Thanks

J

to be honest you can build quite a cheap PC these days s you could mostprob be better off doing that in the long run

May sound a bit daft but I have a little rule of thumb when asked if a PC would run Win 7.

If it has SATA ports it probably would run Win 7x32.
That board has two.

As for the driver issue:
Code:
http://driverpacks.net/

That would be my first port of call seeing the Gigabyte site has no Win 7 drivers.

Grab your self a Win 7 and install it. You get 30 days any way. Worth a test if not just for fun.

Having said that.

Let that PC go. Too old, too out dated.
Grab your self a cheap 1155 board and chip. get 4 gig DDR3.
Would make a nice little machine for pops.

I know I just contradicted myself but I would at least try. just for trying sake.

:D
