Ok, I'm probably being really dense here, but what exactly does this voucher do - does it get you a free copy of Windows 7 when it comes out in October, or is it just cheaper or something? Also if I buy vista 64 do I get a 64 bit version of W7 - and is it the equivalent version (home premium).

Are they basically doing these vouchers now because no one would buy Vista otherwise with W7 so close?

Final question - any issues with buying this for myself - will Microsoft activate it with it being OEM? Will I have to lie to them about who built the PC? (i.e. say it wasn't me or a friend).

Cheers.

Yes, it will get you a copy on Windows 7 when it comes out. If you buy HP in vista, then you get HP in Win 7.

The 32bit and 64bit come with Win 7. You will have no problems activate your product.

It would be cheaper to just order W7 now for its introductory price of £40-50 and use the RC in the meantime :).
Presumably that's the upgrade version and you need a legal OS to upgrade from? TBH I don't have one on my desktop. Don't suppose I could put the W7 RC on and 'upgrade' from that?

Thanks.

Nope, it's not an upgrade license but a full retail license.

You will not be able to upgrade from the Windows 7 release candidate to the final released version of Windows 7. You will have to do a clean installation.
