Currently have Vista 64 installed but its a complete load of arse, has never worked properly and have been running on a default profile for the past couple of months.

So its finally time to upgrade, i think but wanted to ask which Windows 7 version would people recommend? I'm thinking Home Premium but don't really know much about Microsoft's latest OS. Sorry this question has probably been posted before...

Home Premium is pretty much all the average user needs. Ultimate, as always, has ALL the features, but most can be replicated by 3rd party applications.

What issues are you actually having with Vista?

No point upgrading to Win7 if it won't actually solve your problems, as Vista and Win7 aren't 'that' different. A current Vista install should not really have as many serious problems as you seem to be having.

Thanks for the replies!

I wasn't sure if all my problems were vista related, but a lot of the time when i put my computer to sleep, it will just come back on when it feels like it. This will happen a couple of times before i just get a blank screen and have to shut down the PC manually and reboot, to get back to the desktop. The other thing is that it will now only load a default profile (saying my user profile did not load correctly). Have tried to fix this but to no avail.

Ive learnt to live with it but am now at the point where it is rather annoying and want to sort it!

I was going to update my bios before performing a fresh install. Maybe I'm too quick to point the finger at Vista? It is just over a year home build and i am a nub! :)
