i've only recently got a motherboard that supports usb3 so i got myself a sandisk ultra 16gb 3.0 usb stick which should be genuine from a rather large high street store.

my problem is thus:

sandisk usb3 device works fine in usb 2 ports
old usb2 devices work fine in usb 3 ports
usb3 device is not recognised at all when plugged into usb3 port. there is no sound to indicate connection and nothing shows in device manager. all my googling so far shows people having problems with unrecognised devices in device manager but i'm not even getting that???

i've installed intel usb3 drivers which show fine in device manager...

i'm tempted to acquire a copy of windows 8.1 just to see if it works??

NEXT DAY EDIT: problem solved with newer drivers. :p

is there anything in the list showing as a unknown device or issues installing?

i had a USB 3 external HDD which i had to go and get the recent up to date drives from the mobo site.

have you rebooted since the drivers where installed?

do you have all the USB bits enabled in the bios?

nope. that's exactly why i posted. i googled to find many people having problems with usb3 devices showing with the yellow exclamation in device manager but i'm getting nothing. there is no recognition at all. yet the stick itself is fine in a usb2 port and usb2 devices are fine in the usb3 port? :/

i'll have a look around in the bios. i didn't think to check there so thanks for the suggestion.

as for drivers, i didn't even use the mobo CD or manufacturer site. i went straight to the intel website.

Perhaps the motherboard has a mix of Intel USB3 and 3rd party USB3 ports.

For example my MSI board has some Intel USB3 ports and some Renesas Electonrics USB3 ports.

You could go to the motherboard manufacture website and see if there USB3 drivers other than Intel.

i'm such a cheapskate that it's an H81 chipset and it only has 4 usb ports on the back panel - 2 x usb2 and 2 x usb3 - all intel. the onboard headers are usb2 only for the front panel on my case.

You really need either a 2nd USB3 device to test, or to take your Sandisk USB3 to a friends PC who has USB3 ports. So you can see if the problem is with the motherboard or Sandisk USB3 drive.
