Before installing the Windows 7 beta, I've been reading up on the OS changes, ommisions and additions. One of the most exciting additions imo is the native touchscreen support, 'Windows Touch'

I expect they'll start putting out laptops with touchscreens, but do you think we can expect quite a shift in desktop monitors? I'd imagine in a year when the OS is released, there'll be quite a market for 22"+ touchscreen monitors - do we know if the big names in monitors are already working on this? Do you think they'll be a viable price in comparison to the current displays?

Touchscreen will have its uses but I can't see it making mice redundant.

For the simple fact that your finger/hand/arm will be obstructing the screen when your manipulating an object on the screen so your essentially blocking your own view.

Having used the ipod touch extensively I really think laptops with similar glass touch screens would be awesome to use.

for normal PC use, it wont catch on. For things like those mentioned above (jukebox, tabletops, laptops etc) it should be cool.

Wont really work for desktops. I dont think you can get any sort of precision needed for desktop work with a finger, and we alredy have stylus based tablets and such.

I'd love a PC in my future kitchen/living room with a screen in the wall I could just touch and play songs with a recognisable interface. Can definitely see a large market (all be-it high end) adopting it within 5 years.

The technology is good for certain things but I can't see it ever taking over physical peripherals in your hand.

The Surface stuff looks very impressive from what I've seen but I wouldn't want to do my day to day computing in such a way.

Throwing your credit card down on a desk in a restaurant and dragging your food onto it, in order to pay for those items however, is pretty fantastic. Whether that'll be plausible or not in the real world is another thing.

Ditto these replies.
All my desktop PC's have the monitor at more than arm's length anyway.

Although I can't see it replacing replacing a mouse and keyboard for somethings (FPS for example) there are lots of uses for it which would be cool. A glass topped coffee table in the living room, doubling as a media centre? Good things to come I reckon
