Windows 7 wireless network problem

Hi guys,

I got back from Uni on Friday and set my PC up at home. I have a DLink Wireless N Router with 6 devices connected wirelessly and 1 via Ethernet. All of these machines work fine, but when I plugged the wireless adapter into my machine from Uni, the problems have started.

I connect to my wireless network and can see all the other networked machines, but Windows tells me I have no Internet Connection. At first, I ran the in built diagnostics but this told me it couldn't find a problem. So far I have:

- Updated Adapter driver,
- Tried the PC via Ethernet, it works fine,
- Ran Virus scan,
- Disabled firewall,
- Checked IPv4 and v6 settings,
- Checked Proxy settings,
- Tried the network without a WPA key,
- Checked all Network services are running,
- And removed Apple Bonjour that the Internet told me may be a problem.

And none of these have resolved my issue. It's really quite annoying. The PC worked fine wirelessly back in October and now it won't work at all wirelessly, no matter how close to the router I get so it can't be a signal problem.

Another thing that crossed my mind was that in order to connect the University network, it ran an auto connect tool that asked for my Username and Password. But as far as I can see, there are no settings about that which relate to authentication.

So, can anybody on OcUK help me? :(

Thanks.

It popped up in Firefox but then prompted me to download a .exe that handled things for me. I've checked the settings in both IE and FF, I can't see anything out of the ordinary.

Yes, the other PCs all connect and work fine. But this one PC, connects to the network but doesn't get any further than that.

Just tried the USB adapter in another PC, it works fine there

Surely that means it's something to do with the PC, rather than my adapter?

Right, after spending the rest of the day trying to fix this issue, I've still not found a solution.

After checking on Microsoft's forums, nobody there has an answer to my problem, some solutions sounded hopeful but didn't work for me.

The only other thing that people have suggested is reinstalling Windows, which I really don't want to do just because of this.

Does anyone else have any things I could try?

Haha, I was going to mention the title, but thought it was a little rude... You are trying to help me :p

I've never had 7 do this to me, on any of the machines. But, you're right. It's a head scratcher.

The only feedback I get is 'Connected. No Internet Access'. When I run the troubleshooter, it says it cannot help with the problem.

*Sighs*

Yeah, I know what you mean. It'd take only an hour or so to start a fresh, but it's just rather annoying to have to do that! I have everything the way I like it, Visual Studio installed, Photoshop...

It's only been on this install for Three Months!

Alas, if it comes down to it, that's what I'll have to do. Not giving up yet though, I will find an answer! :D

Thanks for your help by the way :)

Just an update for anyone reading:

I contacted the University, they directed me to a registry key that had been altered to do with encryption. For some reason, it only affected wireless connections, but hey.

Removed it and now all is well. Thanks for the suggestions :)
