just got an acer 8930g laptop and I cant get it to install

this laptop has got win vista 32 bit, i downloaded windows 7 64 bit rc from windows download site

its saying not possible to upgrade with this version.
I tried to install from boot up but it sort of hangs and then does tries to do a repair and eventually boots back to vista

The bios wont let me disable to hd from booting, moved the boot priority for the dvd drive to boot first but still no luck

as its a dual core cpu i wanted to install a 64 bit version

anyone help me to get my head around what i need to do ?

so you have vista 32bit and your trying to replce it with a Win7 64 bit.

Has your laptop got a 32 or 64 bit processer??

its saying not possible to upgrade with this version.

When you install Windows it gives you two choices. One choice is to install from scratch, the other is to upgrade from whatever version of Windows is already installed on your machine. You need to choose the first one mate. And also as posted above make sure that you have the correct version of Windows for your hardware.

After a quick Google search it appears that laptop's processor is the T9400 which I believe is 64bit.

It's possible you won't be able to upgrade a 32bit version of windows into a 64bit.
I'd try either a fresh install or download the 32bit version.

You can't do an in-place upgrade of x32 to x64, it's a clean install I'm afraid.

If you boot from the DVD (try ESC, F8 or F12 on the BIOS screen to get the boot menu), once the installer has loaded, choose install and then the custom option instead of upgrade.

Make sure you've backed up first.

Yes that right you cannot upgrade from 32bits to 64bits - only you do is reformat and reinstall x64 that clean it up.. if you upgrade Vista x86 to W7 x86 or Vista x64 to W7 x64 that fine but Vista x86 to W7 x64 is clean install not upgrade cos it wee bit different in OS system between 32 and 64bits

if you have all your own files then move to USB pen drive or backup DVD disc or External hard drive first b4 you clean the hard drive in laptop.
