Bit of a strange one that I can't quite pinpoint - booted my desktop up this afternoon and the (Bluetooth) mouse wouldn't respond. To cut to the chase it appears that the windows bluetooth software/service/whatever is broken. After removing the mouse from the devices and printers panel, I tried to readd the mouse and it would just get stuck on the 'searching for devices' box. It simply fails to pickup any bluetooth devices at all (tried with my phone as well), yet it claims bluetooth is enabled. My desktop has a gigabyte wifi/bluetooth combi pcie card (GC-WB300D) and I have also tried a little 6ish year old generic usb bluetooth adaptor. Here's a brief run down of what I have tried:
swapping mouse batteries out - fail
disabling/re-enabling bluetooth - fail
rebooting - fail
uninstalling/deleting/reinstalling drivers (with appropriate reboots) - fail
physically unplugging card, inspecting and refitting using different internal usb header - fail
disabling gigabyte card and using generic adaptor - fail
system restore to 28th jan - fail
pairing mouse to laptop with built in bluetooth - success
disabling laptop bluetooth and using same generic adaptor on laptop - success
fresh install of windows on spare drive in desktop - pending
Now bluetooth isn't my forte so chances are its just a setting or something but it beats me as to why it would do this by itself if this were the cause. It was working fine last night, and has done so perfectly without intervention for the last few months. One thing that might be worth a mention is that we had a power cut this morning and the desktop was on at the time, although the rest of the desktop is working just fine...
thoughts?
