Windows 7 x64 vs. windows 8.1

I started back then on Commodore 64/Amiga ,Sinclair Spectrum etc,my first Microsoft OS was DOS (which I liked)and I hated Windows ,I really did,but when DOS was phased out decades ago out I accepted it and adapted to Windows and moved on,so it works both ways.

I'm not really sure what your point is with DOS - Windows was created to allow you to use programs and or use them in a way that simply couldn't work under DOS (or atleast not in any useful way) and for a long time there was nothing stopping you sticking with DOS until a long time down the road when programs started to stop supporting it. TBH there is still a DOS eco-system out there if you really don't have a need for the stuff Windows brings to the table.

Not quite true since DOS ended long time ago, last was really 6.22,most software(99.9% now) including games are designed for Windows not DOS,I only use DOSBox now for my very old DOS games.

My point was quite simple I adapted to change from DOS to Windows,I still miss DOS but as I stated accepted its time has ended, same goes for every Windows OS including Win7 and 8 ,they are no different, there time will be up sooner or later and people just need to move forward and adapt.

Fact is I can accept anybody not liking any OS but fact is they(Windows) are all easy to use nowadays,OS has to adapt to changes in modern times why can't some people, you can bet some won't be able to adapt to Win9,mark my words.

TBH there is still a DOS eco-system out there if you really don't have a need for the stuff Windows brings to the table.

I can do most of that on Linux, emails, browsing, online banking, shopping, word software etc, gaming is really the key thing for me on Windows but I do other things when I'm on Windows as well.

Nice quote but I don't think it really applies to not liking an OS lol.

I've recently installed 8.1 and so far I'm really liking it, it's definitely quicker than 7 was and I've noticed performance improvements in a few games.

Is 9 due out next year?

Last time I checked was stated for April 2015,that could change but I'm looking forward to a new OS to play with.

8 is significantly faster than 7 on lower to mid-range hardware, not such a big difference on higher end stuff but the better multi-threading support and caching makes for quite a difference on systems with less core counts, etc.
