Hey everyone, havent really kept up much with the latest PC goings on for a whilst although I do know that Windows 7 is due soon.

My question is, what will be the best version to get for a home user? And is there a limit to the number of installs etc

Home Premium will suit pretty much every home user as it currently does on Vista.

Wikipedia said:
Microsoft announced on July 21, 2009, that they will be offering a family pack of Windows 7 Home Premium (in select markets) which will allow installation on up to 3 PCs.

Says 3 installs of Home Premium Family Pack on Wiki, which im assuming is 1 key for 3 PC's and thats it. No idea on the standard Home Premium though.

Cool, just asking because didnt vista have a limit to the amount of times you could install/reinstall on the same pc? or something to do with hardware changes? just wondered if it was the same

The OEM version is tied to the original motherboard of the system it is first activated on. You can reinstall on that system as many times as you like. If you pre order from OcUK you will get the full retail product that means you will be able to change/upgrade your motherboard.

Ok, so i have an ibm laptop at the moment which i like to reinstall windows on every few months to keep it clean & up to date...will I be ok doing that (installing, using, formatting, reinstallin etc) i also have my gfs laptop which i was going to install it on? also where would i stand if i replaced my laptop in a year or so...would i still be able to install and activate windows?

In answer to your first question yes, but there should be no need to do that. If you want to go down the route of reinstalling, take an image and restore from that when required.
You cannot install the same copy on more than one PC you will need another copy for your GF
If you have the full retail version, you will be able to change PCs no problem but if you get OEM then no.

so how will it know if im reinstalling it on a new pc or another totally different pc?

you activate one and then the other one will be deactivated, there not silly mate, i'm sure you will try it anyway but good luck sooner or later one will get locked out and your be buggered
