Hi everyone and thanks for any replies..I have a new copy of windows home i bought it in jan this year when i had my new rig..its instaled ion it now...can i put it on my laptop or can i only use it once,,,,.thanks

If it's OEM according to MS's license it's tied to the PC you first installed it on.

If it's retail then you can install it on as many PC's as you like, but only one at a time.

You can also use the disk to install it as many times on as many PC's as you like, but the product key can only be used once (as above). So you can use the disk to install a trial if you want.

ok thanks for that but being nood i cant understand wot will happen if i put it on my lappy ...wont it register or something...the reason i'm askin i'm having big problems with my new lappy acer aspire5742 ..its 6 months ols and having blue screen ..freezing ..there no other software onit apart than microsoft 7 and essentials..i complained to acer and they said with looking its software and the intend to charge me £75..so was gunna put new windows on to see if it still plays up...John

Yep that's fine - there's 2 parts to Windows the physical disk and the license key.

The license key is the important bit. So you can install as many times as you like, from different Windows 7 media if you like on the laptop, just remember to use the same license key on the same machine.

It's not even needed straight away, you can skip it during the install, and it will work for 30 days no problems, which can be extended. Eventually though you'll need the key and it will activate your copy of Windows with MS.

On your Acer machine you should find a sticker on the bottom of the machine with your key listed. You might want to just double check with a keyfinder that it's the one that's registered in Windows at the moment.

Just don't waste two keys on one machine :)

In that case you'll be using the product key from the laptop itself (the code on the Windows sticker) so its all good. The installation media doesn't really matter, just the version
