I downloaded Windows 8.1 and installed on my computer I have built via USB. I can't find any option to install 64-bit instead of 32-bit. The installer is called OSGS14-WindowsSetupBox-32bitand64bit-English-4141408 so I presumed I can install 64-bit this way. Anyone know how to do this?

Cheers, Will.

It is a 64-bit system. Is there a way to force install 64-bit? The computer I downloaded it on was a 32-bit however so maybe this has something to do with it?

That may well be it. It probably auto detected the system you downloaded it on and gave the version for that. Try downloading it on a 64bit system

It might do - perhaps the install creator only downloads 32bit files if you run it on a 32bit computer?

Download a 64bit ISO.

Since the download has both versions, it'll install the version that is compatible with the processor so if the computer has a 64-bit processor then the 64-bit version of windows 8.1 will be installed (there might be instances like with the processor not fulfilling the install requirements for the 64-bit version where it will install the 32-bit version).

You can check the system section in the control panel to see if the 64-bit version has been installed (there would also be two program files folders in the 64-bit version).

I don't think you ever get the choice of which one to download/install. Your key will be linked to a certain product eg. Windows 8 Pro and it'll download the appropriate version based on the computer you download it from. It's assuming you're upgrading the Windows on that machine.

Refers to the setup program, which will choose the correct download for you. You then put this onto a USB stick and install.

The above may already be obvious. Personally I think the handling of the whole upgrade/install process is silly, it was designed to accommodate the basic user only.
