I read a while back that you need to do some tweaks in Windows 8 / 8.1 if you are using an SSD because by default it will not turn off defragging.

Is there a list of things to do once I get Win 8.1 installed?

I think that was for 7, 8 recognises it's an SSD and won't defrag.

No, it wasn't for 7.

Windows 7+ are supposed to recognise an SSD and therefore not defragment it, however there was a thread posted on here a few months back, which indicated that there was a bug in Windows 8.1 which means it still defragments SSDs. However if I remember right this was disproved, but it's still worth checking.

I did a clean install of Windows 8.1 to my SSD

Windows picked up it was a SSD & disabled de-fragmentation straight away

It should pick it up as an SSD and not defrag, yeah.

(I still use Defraggler for that stuff on my HDDs though)

Windows 8.1 detected my SSD fine when I did a clean install on it but I know if you image from a mechanical hard drive with Windows 8.1 to an SSD then you might have to do some tweaks.

Thanks for clearing that up.

I remember too. This was certainly the case, OP.

Never even thought to check mine to be honest.

Have a read of this before concluding Windows 8+ doesn't defrag your SSD

Why Windows 8 and 8.1 defragment your SSD and how you can avoid this

This is what was in the old thread and was found to be wrong.
I have checked my SSD and it has never been defragged in win 8 or 8.1
