Morning all, I haven't really had time to look in to this but I've got a few spare minutes this morning.

Basically when playing music in Windows Media player it keeps crashing .... I've tried the Media Player Trouble-shooter, the sfc/scannow and Disable and Enabling Media player in Windows features nothing seems to cure it :(

Any one else had this issue??

Thanks

How regular is the crashing? How long til it happens after you start audio playback?

Do you have the same issues in any other players? i.e. VLC Media Player?

it crashes on every single track, I cant even listen to a full song....

Well I've just installed VLC media player and its working fine, so I think il just remove Windows Media player and stick with this

Thanks

Open up Event Viewer, it should give you more of a clue as to why it's crashing.

Although I don't use it, WMP should be pretty stable..

Well my solution was to just remove it and use VLC media player

IIRC, VLC uses it's own internal codecs, which is why that worked as a fix. You've sidestepped whatever the problem is with WMP.

I'd suggest you uninstall any codec packs and install the Shark codecs, but if you're happy with VLC, then stick with it.

Ducking under the issue like that isn't a good move really. The problem is still there, it's just that you're not encountering it.

Sort the issue out or you'll run into it with other programs.

No need to install codec packs. If you need to encode things, then install individual codecs as you need them.

For playback, if WMP can't play it, then use Winamp or Foobar for audio, MPC-BE or VLC for video.
