I have a little great ASUS laptop that has windows 8 pre-installed on it, but anyway, I opted for the free update to windows 8.1 just for the sake of it, soon as the years warranty is up on the lappy I will be installing windows 7 on it quickly lol (hate windows 8).

Anyways, I had a look at disk management and notice that there is 5 partitions, I was thinking what the hell man ????? I mean I can understand maybe 1 extra for restoring the system, but to have 5 I found strange man :(

They are all different sizes, but whats bothering me is the only hard drive that is in the lappy is a sata old style (not an SSD) and its only 320GB sized drive, so although that's plenty just for a little backup machine, its not a massive drive.

Does anyone know what I am talking about with this windows 8.1 and it having 5 partitions in total and why etc, also it would be handy to know if or how I can just get them all into the main windows drive and maybe just the extra 1 for the backup, that I can understand, but 5, wowwwwwwww , lol !!!!!

Appreciate any input on this, thanks :);)

If it's using EFI then you will have 3 just for Windows (Windows Recovery, EFI Partition, Windows itself) then it sounds like you have the OEM recovery and possibly a data partition.

Sounds fairly normal to me.

that'll be down to the OEM. as mentioned above, nothing to do with windows itself.

if you have a normal installation disk and are prepared to re-install yourself, you can zap all those partitions during setup.

Ok guys thanks, its normal then by the looks of it as youz say, so I will just leave it alone, cant be bothered reinstalling it etc etc, soon as the lappys 1 year warranty is up I will just stick windows 7 on it anyway to be rid of windows 8, lol.

Out of curiosity, what would be the best version of windows 7 to install on this lappy with these specs, could someone tell me please ? I would just like it to run nice and as fast as possible, not very interested in how good looking it is etc.

This is the lappy specs >>>>

Asus X55C Laptop, Intel Core i3-2328M 2.2GHz, 4GB RAM, 320GB HDD, 15.6" Screen, DVDRW, Intel HD, Webcam, Windows 8 64bit.

Cheers guys :)

p.s
it basically only gets used with the wife for checking email, browsing the net and going on facebook and things like that and maybe she watches the odd tv catchup programme that can be in HD sometimes, apart from that nuffin else really, no gaming or anything like that lol.

home premium 64bit.

i really don't see the point of getting rid of 8 though. i'm not not the biggest 8 fan in the world but i wouldn't go to the effort of spending money on windows7. with the new options in 8.1 like booting to the desktop and showing all desktop apps on the start screen first, you'll get used to it - especially after a year.
