Hey all,

Wonder if you could help me out. I have an odd windows issue that I've never encountered before. I was running Windows 8 but decided on re-installing the OS with Windows 8.1. I had no issues running windows 8, however windows 8.1 is causing one annoying issue. The issue is, I am getting a device connected noise every few seconds. I can't for the life of me figure out what it is.

The only thing that changed other than the OS installation was a BIOS upgrade. Everything is working as normal but I'm getting this annoying noise. I thought it might be to do with network discovery and adding devices like TV's etc but I turned that off and the issue is still there. I've installed all the up to date drivers and nothing is missing in device manager.... mental.

Anyone else got this or have a suggestion? Cheers.

Hey all,

Well I tried a couple of suggestions... unplugged all usb peripherals but still getting the device connected sound. Wondering if its some kind of thing as a result of my BIOS flashing.

If I keep device manager open it does do a refresh pretty much every time the sound is generated. I've expanded the whole tree of devices and there is no difference from when the sound is generated to when its silent. It's ultra consistent, every 5 seconds it makes the same sound.

Running Windows 8 (prior to BIOS upgrade) I did not experience this. After BIOS upgrade and Windows 8.1 Installation is when the problem occurred. Might be some value in rolling back to the previous BIOS version.

Hmm.....

By the way - thought I'd update everyone. This occurred due to my Corsair Link (I had forgotten that it connected via an internal USB header. All sorted now... still pings once everytime windows boots which is a bit weird but it now works properly and doesn't happen every 5 seconds! :)
