wondering if this is normal...

when I boot into windows once all the stuff has loaded it uses around 3gb ram (of 16gb).

this seems a bit mental, is this right?

thanks :)

Seems fine.

Memory usage is relative to total memory available.

On a netbook with 1GB of ram, windows will use around 600MB at idle.
On a pc with 8GB ram it uses about 1.5GB at idle.

My Desktop with 16GB of ram can use anything from 2.2GB to 3GB idle. I think your good. :)

Actually with a lot of start up stuff I have totalled around 5GB before lol.

My windows 8.1 uses 1.36gb RAM on idle.

Check your task scheduler as there is an automated maintenance than runs when the computer is idle and can use up a good 10-15% extra RAM.

The above also runs IF you turn off the maintenance via the normal maintenance window.

The amount of RAM used when the system is idle, is also directly connected with the hardware. If you have more RAM, then more likely windows will use a little bit more.

I know this from experience, as with 8GB of RAM I used to idle at around 1.5 - 2GB RAM. with 16GB of RAM on the same config I use 2.5 - 3GB. :)

You want the memory being used. thats why its there. windows since vista has proportionally grabbed a larger bit for caching etc.

If its needed by another program, windows will drop it like its hot.

You can get a little bit more info about what Windowzzz is using all that memory for, by opening Resource Manager and looking at the memory tab
