Windows 8.1 not compatible with Antivirus?

Ive recently installed windows 8 and after slowly geting used to it (had to google how to shut it down

), I thought I'd try installing the 8.1 preview.

So, after installing it I noticed Avast wasnt runnig. I searched and couldn't find it installed, so I then downloaded again and tried to re-install it to no avail, as its keeps coming up with a compatability error. I thought I'd try AVG but I get the same error with this also.

Is ayone else running 8.1 and having issues with antivirus? I know there's bugs and drivers to finalise but this is on my main pc and I dont fancy using it without one!

*looks for backup and restore option

It has Defender/mse built in.

You will need to wait for the AV companies to support 8.1 properly.

I'd stick with Defender for now until the AV vendor specifically supports 8.1

Defender is ok if you browse with a dose of common sense to be fair, alternative is to go back to Win8 and just wait on the vendors catching up

8.1 is arguably the most secure general purpose OS out there. The biggest liability is between the chair and the keyboard, as long as youre not involved in high risk stuff you'll be fine.

AV companies won't support beta OS's has code can change from beta to RTM

If you're extremely cautious and keep the system patched, you have very little to worry about.
