I've been looking around the web for the cheapest copy I can buy and came across a online store that lets you download the ISO for free then allows you to buy an Activation key. I've googled around and it seems legit but they're only charging $60 for a Windows 8.1 Pro which is about £35 via Paypal.

This is what they say..

"The Software hosted on ******.com is verifiably genuine, as well as the licenses we provide. We are simply in the business of reselling (recycling) unused licenses from damaged/open-box/returned retail software products. That said, prices are kept low and availability is quite limited.

******.com is primarily a software repository and a free public service. If you'd like to verify the integrity of the software for yourself, you may extract and match the SHA1 hash value of any downloaded file using the following Checksum Integrity Verifier from Microsoft (although it does require you to have some command line experience)"

Also if I'm paying via Paypal and it turns out to be fake can't I just do a charge back?

Should I trust it?

I'm not entirely sure you will be protected with a Paypal transaction (In terms of refunds), like on Fleebay.

To be honest I can't really help much as I don't know what the site is. :)
Your best bet it to have Google around to see if anyone mentions anything about them?

There's cheaper than that, there's people selling the upgrade license for £25, which was the promotion price. Although I can't see how it's legit at that price.
Downloading the ios from Ms is perfectly valid as there are online purchases. It's all to do with if the key is valid.

Doing an upgrade and install this weekend and quite fancied giving 8 another go! There is quite a bit of feedback on their blog with people saying it worked and others saying it can't be real because its too cheap but they answer all comments and assure people it's real, £35 is a great price and I'm tempted!

Also seen keys on auction site cheap from people with plenty of feedback, can these be trusted as I could definitely do a charge back couldn't I?

Yeah don't risk it,I bought a Windows 8 key online (Ebay) when it first came out and worked alright for a while, thought i had myself a good deal until one day "this version of windows is not valid"..,contacted microsoft and they said it had been blacklisted or something like that..luckily i got a full refund and the seller was removed.

I now have a 100% legit retail copy.

Thanks I didn't know that about no protection from PayPal :(

Think I'll either stump up for a retail copy or re-install 7

Thanks for the link, I'd rather have the full version from the off though, wish I was a student or even new one lol.

My concern with some of these keys even from the original supplier I mentioned is what's to stop them re-selling the same keys 6 months down the line then closing down!

Just checked out the differences between 8 and 8 pro and I don't think I'll ever use the extra stuff like bitlocker etc. so maybe the none pro version will do.

Just bought a retail copy of Windows 8.1 pro from an eBay seller for £30. The seller is based in Italy and as been a member on the bay since 2004 with 100% positive feedback and over 400 trades. He goes in to great detail about how he acquires these licenses and he also says these are retail and can be moved to a different computer etc.

I received an email this morning with a photo of the COA and if I want he will post the original COA. He also included a Pid Checker link that I've not used just in case!

If this does work I might be tempted to by another for my MacBook Air that's triple booting Mavericks, Windows 7 and Ubuntu. Will replace Windows 7

What's people's thoughts on this, also can someone post a trusted link to a Pid Checker?

Cheers

Either pirate it or buy it from a proper retailer. Otherwise you're just lining someone's pockets until MS block the key.

Seriously - you've just paid £30 for a pirate copy/illegal key sale for a copy of Windows 8.1?
Either pay the full price of steal it entirely. Don't actually pay pirates for illegal software.
Either you give a damn - so pay up, or you don't in which case just steal it yourself.

If you're so sure of the legitimacy of these keys drop an email to [email protected] and see if they agree with your expert opinion.
