On 2 occasions after waking my pc from sleep windows 8.1 has rejected my password (Password is definitely correct and all my key strokes are being picked up) and the only way i could log in was to restart the computer. Does anyone know why or what could be causing this?

I have something similar. Sometimes when it's leaving sleep I start typing before the screen is on. These keys aren't actually being picked up. That's the only thing I can think of. Change your password to something very simple such as a123456 with no special characters and see if that works - making sure you wait until the screen is on and the keys are registering before continuing.

Funny enough I do start typing before the screen is on but in these two cases the screen was on before i started typing.

Seems I need to try a second keyboard if I can get my hands on one.

On waking from sleep, without fail, Windows 8.1 won't recognise my password the first time round. I have to re-enter it a second time, and voila, lets me in!

I use a Microsoft account, rather than a local account, to login if that matters.

On my PC, half the time after boot up, the first key press simply raises the pretty picture up so that the password box is displayed. The second key press then becomes the first character of my password, which means that Windows rejects it.

I've now got in the habit of pressing the Shift key to get rid of the first screen, and then I can start typing my password.

No second keyboard unfortunately.

type the password nto the username box (if someone has not already suggested that) - jsut to chekc its comming out as you expect

also is it actually saying hte password is wrong? or is it saying something else and you are assuming?

Just an update to this. I discovered that the issue was my keyboard layout was being changed from English UK to English US. Which was why my password was being typed in wrong.
