Hi everyone,

over the last few weeks everytime I boot up my pc I am getting a pop up in the windows action center telling me I need to scan my drive for errors.

I have scanned all drives and after wards it says rebooot to fix errors, which I do only for it to come back upon start up. It's like a never ending loop.

I have ran ccCleaner, defragged any hard drives I have, ran virus scans, ran malware and spyware scans, ran error checking on each drive but I just can't solve it and it is driving me mad!

Any help please? :(

Control Panel\All Control Panel Items\Administrative Tools\Event Viewer\Windows Logs\System

Are any errors listed?

I'm getting...

Volume \\?\Volume{45321226-6a5c-11e2-be65-806e6f6e6963} (\Device\HarddiskVolume1) needs to be taken offline to perform a Full Chkdsk. Please run "CHKDSK /F" locally via the command line, or run "REPAIR-VOLUME <drive:>" locally or remotely via PowerShell.

I't won't let me run CHKDSK/F via cmd, it says Access denied due to not having privileges and I need to invoke this utility in elevated mode.

Also getting this...

Volume \\?\Volume{45321226-6a5c-11e2-be65-806e6f6e6963} (\Device\HarddiskVolume1) requires an Online Scan. An Online Scan will automatically run as part of the next scheduled maintenance task. Alternatively you may run "CHKDSK /SCAN" locally via the command line, or run "REPAIR-VOLUME <drive:> -SCAN" locally or remotely via PowerShell.

Again I can't run the advised fix via cmd.

Use trial version of hdd regen to check for bad sectors...if any then drive on way out http://hddregenerator.net

I'll also look at this :)

Have you checked the sata cable is well seated?

Yep, that is all fine!

use the context menu to run cmd.exe as admin. Alternatively, right click on a drive -> properties ->tools -> click 'check now'.

When I had problems with my HDD, CHKDSK /F reported everything was fine. And only when I ran CHKDSK /R overnight (it takes hours) did the HDD behave itself.

Iv'e googled this issue and it seems a few people have it since going to windows 8.1 from windows 8.

Unfortunately there is no fix I can find and despite trying all the advice in here it is still there, annoying me :(

OK so coming back to this as it is driving me insane!

As google cannot help me I am wondering if there is any more knowledge in here? I have narrowed it down to the error being on my C: drive which is a Samsung 250GB SSD 840.

The actual event viewer message is...

A corruption was discovered in the file system structure on volume \\?\Volume{45321226-6a5c-11e2-be65-806e6f6e6963}.

A file on the volume is no longer reachable from its parent directory. The parent file reference number is 0x2000000000002. The name of the parent directory is "<unable to determine file name>". The parent index attribute is ":$I30:$INDEX_ALLOCATION". The file reference number of the file that needs to be reconnected is 0xaa00000007267f. There may be additional files on the volume that also need to be reconnected to this parent directory.

I cannot find this location on my drive, I was going to delete any files found in it but as I say I cannot locate it.

Has anyone any further help to offer please? :)

have you checked the samsung website to see if there are any diagnostic tools for your drive?

also, did you try the bootable CD Mr Krugga suggested? you really want to check the drive from "outside" of windows so you get full access to it.

Download Hiren's BootCD, go from there.

Thanks, just trying Samsungs Magician program at the moment.

Regarding the bootable CD, what steps are taken to use it? Which option on the boot CD do I want to fix hard drive errors?

So bringing this thread back as it still hasn't been solved. Even after trying everything suggested.

The latest thing I have read is...

generally, you would not get a repeatable file system corruption like this with a BIOS change. That is why I thought it would be in the SSD firmware or in the chipset drivers for the SATA controller.
update the chipset drivers from intel
https://downloadcenter.intel.com/SearchResult.aspx?lang...

fix the error and reboot the system and see if the error comes back.

My question is about doing this, I bought an overclocked bundle from here last year and it is what I am running, I am told not to update any of the BIOS otherwise I could lose the overclock. Is it safe to update the chipset drivers without losing anything?
