Windows 8.1 Sharing internet over wifi

So basically, I am trying to share my desktops internet connection via a wifi dongle. The Wi-Fi for the home just doesnt reach my room and I have tablet and Vita I want to interweb with at night.

I have the wifi dongle set to host a network, and my phone connects to that fine. I have set the desktops ethernet to share its internet but when i try to browse on my phone I dont get anywhere.

Any ideas? I know I probably done something silly.

I used http://www.connectify.me/lite-vs-pro/ when i was sharing my internet connection over Wifi. The free version is good enough

Buy a wireless access point that has a switch built in. Use that in your room.
