Windows 8.1 Touchpad Issue

I bought an Acer laptop not so long ago and did a clean installallation of Windows 8.1.

Everything is working fine other than sometimes when the laptop wakes from sleep the mouse pointer doesn't appear. It looks to me like the touchpad isn't waking with the laptop but it only happens about 25% of the time. A restart will always bring it back.

It an elantech touchpad and I've checked that the drivers are up to date.

Has anyone had a similar issue and found a fix?

Does this happen without the drivers installed?

Checked for a newer version on the elantech website?

I've uninstalled the drivers and will see how it goes.

Elantech don't offer driver downloads on their site. They just refer you back to the manufacturer's website for your product.

One thing that I have noticed though is that when the drivers are installed I'm not getting the Elan tab with the additional settings in the mouse properties window.

Oh well, it seems that the problem still occurs when the default microsoft drivers are installed.

I'll re-install the Elan driver for now and try unchecking the box in device manager that lets windows power off the touchpad

Bios is up to date and the 'don't power off the touchpad' option hasn't worked.

There's various threads on the Acer forum about touchpad issues but none with exactly the same symptoms or an actual solution.

I think I'm going to have to try re-installing the OS in case I've did something when setting it up initially but I might just put Windows 7 on it if I can't sort it because reading around the internet it seems that the Windows 7 driver package is lot more stable and offers more functionality.

After some experimenting it seems like it's not a sleep issue but a problem when the laptop transitions from a sleep state to a hibernate state after a few hours of being asleep.

I've stopped it from hibernating under any circumstances and haven't had the issue since.
