Windows 8.1 update failure.

Anyone else has this?

Allegedly it's external devices/drivers/wedontreallyknowandwereclutchingatstraws according to Microsoft.

I'm guessing I'll probably be best to try a clean install seeing as downgrading drivers and unpluging everything did nothing.

How are you trying to install 8.1?

App update, not from DVD etc. It's an in place upgrade from 8 pro

You could try upgrading using an 8.1 ISO

I've just had the same message, used the app store too - but I got no code which is rather annoying as it makes it harder to diaganose. Attempted to update my desktop which had a rather clean install of Win 8, up to date drivers and nothing too strange hardware wise.

I thought i'd have had issues with my laptop but that was a completely painless update.

OK I fixed it this morning by:

1. Uninstalling anything that had Nvidia on it, including audio drivers.
2. Uninstalling the Asus Suite.

Not sure which of those helped but it ran fine afterward.

Asus Suite is a nightmare and caused me issues - the only thing I could find compatible on mine was the Asus Update utility and not the rest of the suite so I'm sure it's something that's just not been updated.

I installed Windows 8 - full Windows 8 update then Windows 8.1 and then the software and drivers - it sounds the wrong way around but seemed to work.
