Hey guys, I just picked up a Gigabyte Z87X-SLI from the clearance section here, and I've built a new machine with it, no existing parts. I've set up the BIOS accordingly to allow me to install Win 8.1 from USB and DVD.
However, here comes the problem. BIOS works fine, everything looks in the green. But when it tries to boot from USB or DVD in order to get the Win 8.1 installer going, it either shows:
The only thing I haven't tried is a different USB stick, worth a shot but it's late on a Saturday and nowhere is open and I have no spares! That and considering even DVD doesn't work ... I'm not hopeful. It is a Sandisk Cruzer which I know is renowned for not being boot-friendly, but I've used it to do the same job on my own PC so ... yeah.
Anyone had a similar issue? Is my motherboard (has a 90 day warranty) fewked? I'll post my BIOS settings below in spoiler tags incase that sheds light on what the crack is. I know it's not overheating as I have a 212 evo on there and the thermal sensor from the DS 200 near the CPU and it doesn't budge.
RELEVANT BIOS SETTINGS:
Specifcations too, if they help
Intel i5 4570
8GB DDR3 Kingston Savage 1600MHZ
EVGA GTX 960 2GB
1TB Seagate SATA HDD
EVGA Supernova 550 GS
I'd appreciate ANY help before I consider sending this back to OCUK for testing. I've not got another Mobo to try out so no idea. Cheers m'dears
However, here comes the problem. BIOS works fine, everything looks in the green. But when it tries to boot from USB or DVD in order to get the Win 8.1 installer going, it either shows:
- Windows 8.1 Logo as if about to start the installer (No spinning dots of loadingness), then after 10 or so seconds, REBOOTS
- BIOS Manufacturer Logo then after about 10-15 seconds, REBOOTS.
- I have tried a DVD install, gives me Windows logo then reboots after a little time
- I have tried a USB install (using YUMI, RUFUS and even MS's own media creation kit)
- I have tried both MBR and GPT of the above
- I have tried installing and using diskpart to setup the Seagate 1TB SATA drive (NEW) in my working machine by copying the folders BOOT/SOURCES/BOOTMGR from the WINDOWS 8.1 ISO, it just does the Windows Logo as if starting setup and reboots even faster than USB and DVD.
- I've even tried a single stick of ram in Slot 4 of 4 and 2 of 4.
- I've tried an entirely different set of Ram (Dominators and Kingston Savages)
- I've even tried a different HDD (spare SSD unused for a future build).
- I have NOT tried updating the BIOS as the latest one is a BETA (F3c) and I have the next latest revision (F2). Didn't want to risk more issues.
