Anyone having this issue? Not tried it with Windows 8 as I've jumped straight to trying Windows 8.1 beta on this machine.

Basically, after each cold start the PC appears to be wirelessly connected to the router but there's no throughput. Ie, the indicator shows the correct number of bars and it is connected but I cannot get any internet access. At first I cured this by moving the dongle to another USB port and it worked again once I retyped the router password but you can guess what I'm going to say next......... I have ran out of USB ports to use! Now, the workaround is to Uninstall the device after each cold start and then unplug the dongle from the PC then plug it in again and voila it works fine no matter what USB port I use....until the next cold start.

I have tried to update the driver using the last available driver for the device from the manufacturer (no mention of Windows 8, last updated early 2012) but Windows just reports that the latest driver is already installed.

It's a Dual Band Linksys device (WUSB600N).
I want to keep using Windows 8.1 but it's doing my head in each morning :(

Have a search on the official Windows 8.1 preview forum, and if it's not there make a post. It sounds to me like your average beta bug so if you provide the feedback they can look into it. We've had about 3 rounds of updates in the last month for 8.1 preview so they're obviously doing a lot of bug squashing.
