Hi having very poor performance with a week old fresh Windows 8.1 install, on boot up it takes a while to get to the logon screen where this takes 30s to recognise the password to load the desktop.

Having serious load time issues and am getting 100% disk load for 10-15minutes after the desktop has loaded, I do nothing

Don't really want to do another install! Driving me mad. After 15 minutes everything seems ok.

Looks like the hard drive is taking a kicking..

^Go with his advice.

I'd also try another SATA cable/port

Hi the Hard Disk seems ok?

After 15 minuets the Laptop is usable, its not exactly a Celeron but seems to respond like one for a while! Going to buy an SSD as it has a spare HDD slot but the Mechanical one will have to do for a while longer.

Would there be much difference if I got an SSD?

Is this a Laptop? or a desktop? (processor seems to indicate desktop)

It's just you have a 5200rpm drive and normally they only appear in Laptops as they are slow. Get a SSD, it will fly!

Installed all the latest Chipset drivers for your Motherboard?

Download CPUZ : http://www.cpuid.com/downloads/cpu-z/cpu-z_1.72-en.zip

Find out your motherboard and then goto the official website of the manufacturer.

Is your Bios set to AHCI for the drive?

It's probably Superfetch if it's only there on boot.

With an SSD, Superfetch won't be enabled. (no benefit).

Hi its a Laptop with an extra bay for another drive, will get an SSD in the next few weeks :)

Everything is up to date and all Intel Chipset drivers are installed, both GPUs and ACHI stuff, I got everything from the HP website.

I did a full fresh Format install so it was 100% Clean with a Genuine 8.1 Pro disk.

I will check the ACHI settings in the bios that could be a good shout, would it make a difference?

you sure it's not either indexing or downloading updates in the background?

Hi its fully up to date with no available updates showing, would indexing use 100% every boot up for 15 minutes? Its about a week old install.
