Windows 8.1 will not sleep

So after all that, it still was the network card. Hopefully Windows 8.1 update 1 will fix this instead of all this messing around. Disabling IPV6 fixed my issue.

I did try disabling IPv6 at the time but it didn't make a difference on my end. Do you also have a Realtek network card?

After working my way through that 100 page thread it seems like that specific 'Realtek PCIe GBE Family Controller' generic driver installed by Windows 8.1 is a major issue.

So nice to have this fixed, now i can finally take a master image of the SSD and restore back to this if I ever need a refresh.

I wouldn't blame realtek, it's MS who supply that driver.

Personally, I always install drivers in this order..

LAN, chipset, graphics, audio.

Testing sleep in between each install, as I hate it not working!

I know what you mean bledd, it's wrong to blame them for someone elses implementation (Battlefield for poor audio compatibility, Microsoft for poor generic driver). However, if I ever get another issue regarding Realtek it'll be a case of three strikes and you're out for purely being the common denominator.

You put LAN drivers as the primary install, that's interesting, why do you do that? I'd be the same only LAN would go last or not at all... see where that's got me. Hehe

Old habit I guess.

My old gigabit card wasn't recognised in XP without installing the driver. So I put that on first, then downloaded all utilities etc as I waitied for chipset drivers to install.
