windows 8 and Codecs

Hi All I have windows 8 installed on my p.c and i,m wondering if i still need to install the Win Codecs ?
probably :S id guess some may be incompatible, just use VLC tho :|
Some (at least one that I know of) of the codecs that are included with other versions of windows aren't included with windows 8 which I found to my cost as one game I have has a video that uses a codec that in not included in windows 8 and causes the game to stop responding the moment it starts.
