I'm using Windows 8 Pro 64 bit RTM and I've got an annoying problem I can't resolve. Basically, I can't install/update anything from the store, attempting to do so always results in this message:

Something happened and this app couldn't be installed. Please try again. Error code: 0x80073cf9

I'm not alone in this problem but the solutions posted haven't worked for me, I've tried the following:

Reinstalled .net framework
Switched Windows firewall on and off
Switched network between public and private
Switched between local and Microsoft account
Created a new local user, same problem
UAC enabled and disabled
Ran SFC which found and rectified some problems but hasn't helped
Disabled all non Microsoft services
Tried Microsoft's diagnostic tool, it found no problems

I've not tried to refresh yet for obvious reasons but as I did a fresh install I'm surprised something so basic isn't working, any ideas?

That's really odd. At this point I would try blowing it away personally to see if that makes a difference.

The only problems I've had with the store is that sometimes it says it can't connect and other times it says there are updates pending even after you've installed them.

The consumer preview also did not like proxy servers at all but that's long been fixed.

Sorry I can't be of more help.

Coming back to this topic, unfortunately I've been unable to locate the cause of this problem and only managed to solve it by performing a refresh (which worked pretty well all things considered).

I'd recommend anyone installing Windows 8 to check they don't have a similar issue as it'll save you time in the long run.
