windows 8 asking to activate after a motherboard change.

Hi all,

Well my motherboard goosed the other day and I changed out to a new MSI board (previously gigabyte). After doing this and getting everything booted back up windows 8 pro is asking me to activate and states my windows key is active on another computer.

I have heard a re-install will work, I don't really want to as ive just recently finished re-installing everything but I will do if it works.

Can anyone confirm this or is there another way I can fix this?

Do you have the option to activate over the phone? That will probably work.

Yeah I have an option to call and give them a series of digits and in reply i get some back or something?

Yeah, Its an automated line, You type some digits in and its spits out an activation code.

Dont think I've ever had a problem doing it this way.

I swapped over a motherboard under Win8 and didn't find any way of deactivating the previous installation.

I ended going down the telephone activation route - no problem apart from dealing with a load of numbers to type in
