windows 8 crashing on startup

regarding my cousins computer as soon as he starts up his pc within 10 seconds varying to 2 mins the computer freezes to death .I have done extensive anti virus searches before such as malwarebytes installed avast and i am now clueless.
I have even restored it but that was a temporary fix.didnt work to well.His compouter has an i5 processor with 4 gb ram (I think) pretty fast when it was working.

Any clues in the eventlog?

run > eventvwr

Can you get into safe mode? Does it seem happier? If it's freezing that fast and still does it in safe mode it may indicate a hardware issue.

If its hard locking with no error then its likely a HW issue.

Try running memory diagnostics.
Hit start and just type it in

Also worth doing a chkdsk.
