Windows 8 drivers for old laptop - help?

Hi guys, so I have an old laptop in for an upgrade, which belongs to a good friend of mine's mother.

It is a Compaq C300EU, specs are:

1.6GHz Celeron (of some description)
1GB 533MHz DDR2
80GB HDD (I think it is SATA, haven't broken it open yet)

After I have put the new parts in it, it will have:

1.73GHz Core Duo
2GB 533MHz DDR2
80GB HDD

If I go to the Compaq site, the latest drivers I can see are for Windows Vista. Can anyone offer any advice on this one?

The decision to use Windows 8 was mainly because of the hybrid shutdown, meaning she wont have to wait years for it to boot up and load everything.

The vista drivers should be compatible, i'd try using them.

Welp, Windows 8 gathered all of the drivers bar the display driver by itself, and the display drivers were easily obtained through the device manager. That was far more painless than I expected.
