Windows 8 im beginning to like it.

Glaucus - you may be pleased to hear:
Well I did a fair bit ranting and raving about Win 8. But tomorrow night (Fri) I am installing Windows 8. I've recieved a USB stick thru the post so I've saved all my personal stuff & I can do a clean install of Win 8.
I'm also thinking about getting a Windows phone, although I dont want to spend 300+ on a phone, I may just get a Lumia 800 (which I'm hoping to get an PAYG upgrade offer on for a lot less, plus theres a 7.8 update due I've heard).

This was the first thing I looked for and there was no option for "pin to Start" - hence my confusion!

Look in File Explorer and find in "Program Files x86, Steam/Steamapps/Common",then find the game folder for the game ie Skyrim for example and look for the application launcher, right click on that and select "pin to start",simple.

Basically once you find the launcher.exe for any game in File Explorer you can right click on it and pin to start (I don't like shortcuts on desktop ,makes desktop untidy lol).

Tried that too. Didn't work, when I clicked it I got the error "This application requires Steam to run". I have Steam, and I made sure it was open.

It's weird because Deus Ex has a shortcut which was pinned automatically, and that's a Steam application.

I just tried it without Steam loaded, worked fine for me,I used Skyrim launcher.exe (as a test) then pin to start ,it loaded Steam then Skyrim.

I actually really like the new start screen. For once I've actually been motivated to sync my calendar to Windows. The Weather app isn't too bad either. Being able to group programs together is pretty decent. I've got Media, Office, Dev, Tools, etc. Far easier to find something compared to looking for that odd program which is in some crazy folder named after the company.

That said one thing I think that really helps is that I have two screens. I never feel trapped in Metro which I can imagine happening when you have just the one.

Nope, doesnt work for me. "STEAM is required to play the game" :(

But then, double clicking the .exe in the game's folder does the same thing, so it's not a problem with Windows.

I'm kinda changing my tune on Windows 8 aswell.

Had some more customers today sporting Windows 8 and I've realized I'm going to have to force myself to learn it as it's going to make my job easier.

So here I am posting from my main PC running Windows 8...

Suppose we all better start embracing and accepting the future :p

Same here, hated it at first.

You definitely need a mouse with buttons to take you to the new Start screen. I've also got Start8 installed so when I need to be in Desktop, I have a proper desktop with start menu.
