There is no limit on the number of times you may do this type of transfer, providing you follow the rules I describe later in this section. That means hobbyists who like to tinker with PCs can relax.   • You upgraded to Windows 8, but didn't have a previous version of Windows installed (error 0xC004F061)
    If you see error 0xC004F061 when you try to activate Windows 8, it means that you're using a product key for an upgrade version of Windows 8 and a previous version of Windows wasn't on your PC when Windows 8 was installed. To install an upgrade version of Windows 8, you must already have Windows 7, Windows Vista, or Windows XP installed on your PC.
    If you formatted the drive before the upgrade version of Windows 8 was installed, you won't be able to use your upgrade product key to activate Windows 8. To activate Windows 8, you'll need to install your previous version of Windows, and then reinstall Windows 8. For help with the activation process,
  • How do you remove windows.old?
    From the start screen type "free", select "free up disk space by deleting unnecessary files"(under settings), run on C:\, click on "clean up system files" near the bottom, once it reloads select "pervious windows installation" and hit OK.

Remember there are two new features, so clean installs should be far less frequent
Reset your PC – Remove all personal data, apps, and settings from the PC, and reinstall Windows.
Refresh your PC – Keep all personal data, Metro style apps, and important settings from the PC, and reinstall Windows.

I wouldn't of done that, it's meant to run till end of jan.
I expect its getting a redesign. All you need was to enter an email address and people where grabbing multiple codes. I expect they pulled it and are going to need the serial number.

It really stupid to be honest, if we purchase with £24.99 upgrade they should including media center key as there will be spam email address and force microsoft to stop it.

I’d like to upgrade a 32 XP to 64 Windows 8, I know I need a DVD. However, during the online upgrade process you can request a DVD (£12.99, on top of the £25) do you know if this contains the 32bit and the 64bit upgrade?

I tried to install, but unfortunately I get to the personalisation page and I have no mouse cursor and keyboard inputs don't work either.

Have tried different USB ports, wired and wireless keyboard/mouse but nothing seems to work.

This is coming from Windows 7 Pro, without a wipe.

Did you make USB/DVD?
 
I'm planing on updating about 5 of my pc's to windows 8, went to the update site and it download windows 8 upgrade. Is there a way just to buy 5 licenses then make the online upgrade into bootable usb? Or would I need to buy at least one Dvd then create that to a USB.

Seem's like you have to run on every pc the upgrade wizard first and you don't just get emailed the keys? I haven't passed the entered my address part so if anyone knows differently please let me know.
 
After is downloaded and before it installs it gives you option to make USB or DVD.
But Serial key is allready in there and it'll only contain 32 or 64bit depending what the installed windows is. And I'm not sure there's any option to buy multiple license anyway.

The download is small, so might as well just buy on each machine.
 
Trying to upgrade my dads PC over the phone and he is getting your CPU is incompatible and needs NX extensions! Its a quad core Q6600 fgs.
 
Glaucus, sorry if this has been answered 10,000 times but after the initial upgrade install can that key then be used for a fresh install if say you change your mobo. you wouldnt have to reinstall win7 then upgrade to 8?

its the potential of having to do 2 installs in the future that mean i dont want to go for this upgrade option.

To resolve this error, follow manufacturer guidelines to enable NX (“No eXecute bit”), or the equivalent XD (“eXecute Disabled”), feature within the BIOS settings. This feature is typically found in the Advanced or Security tabs within the BIOS settings, and can be referred to by a variety of names, including but not limited to:
· No Execute Memory Protect
· Execute Disabled Memory Protection
· EDB (Execute Disabled Bit)
· EVP (Enhanced Virus Protection)

For the record Windows 8 works fine on a Q6600 because that is the CPU I have :p
 
It doesn't say anywhere about this, but if you have windows xp 32 bit can you upgrade to windows 8 64bit? or do you have to stay in the same architecture?

Also when you buy it, do you get your serial number emailed or given to you? So I could buy it on the same machine 4 or 5 times then get all the cd keys then clean install from the usb.
