Problem with a driver auto configuring the LAN controller at 10Mbps? try manually setting it to 100Mbps and see what happens.
thanks i found that but what is the 100 MB Duplex under ? can,t seem to find it ?You can check the speed of you network card by right clicking the network icon in the bottom right of you screen and selecting "Open Network and Sharing Centre" and then selecting Change Adapter Settings (top right). Then right click on your network adaptor and choose Status, then look for Speed, it would normally say 100MB or 1GB depending on your card/router.
From the same Window you can select Properties and then Configure to change the network card settings, probably under the Advanced tab. Assuming you don't have a gigabit router I would suggest trying 100MB Full Duplex. Any problems set it back to Auto.

So your network card is already showing as 100MB/1GB? Have you tried powering down your router and BT modem for a couple of mins. Also trying powering your PC off, removing the power cable from the rear and then push release the power button on the front. Then put the power cable back in and start it back up.
Do you have another machine you can do a speed test with? Possible it's just the BT lines being heavily congested, unless this has been on going over a period of time.
