Windows 8 Messaging App

With the MSN Messenger servers getting shut down in the not to distant future is there any news on MS updating the messaging metro app?

I would think it would all transfer to Skype so at the most you should see it down for a moment at some point. It might just be transparent though as logins may be mirrored or something like that.
