Windows 8 narrator problem

Hi, slight problem on a friends pc...when narrator is turned on she cant type in a word document or in microsoft publisher.

Turn narrator off and it works fine...she also has the magnifier running all the time too.

Realise its probably a silly setting i need to change but cant for the life of me find it.
