Hi,

I am about to build a new PC but have a bit of am issue. My old PC had windows vista. However, a friend who works in the IT industry upgraded it to windows 7 for me using some generic code obviously sourced from his work.

In my new build I would like to install windows 8 64 bit and have the following options:

YOUR BASKET
1 x Microsoft Windows 8 64-Bit DVD - OEM (WN7-00403) £79.99
1 x Windows 8 Pro Upgrade Edition - from XP SP3 / Vista / Windows 7 £41.99
Total : £130.68 (includes shipping : £7.25).

However, in order to go the cheaper upgrade path would I need to to re-install Vista on the new machine first or do I just use my existing vista key in some way during the install?

If the w7 upgrade was legit then that licence replaced the vista one so I think you'd be able to upgrade using the online deal for 24.99 if your happy burning your own media, otherwise the 41.99 one you've listed.

Prob depends if vista was retail version though to use it on new hardware.

use the oem version, at least then you have a full copy, as if you system goes down for any reason you have to put on vista or xp etc first before you can use the upgrade disk, yes there is a work around, but the disk wasn't meant to be used that way
