I encountered an error earlier with Windows Update. It tried to apply a number of updates but when restarting it displayed that it had failed and was rolling back.
I then went through each of the updates waiting to be applied and did each, one at a time. When redoing KB3072630 it caused a BSOD when restarting with something about a Kernal Security error, collected some error information until it said 100% and then restarted. Unfortunately now it shows my Windows is not activated. I've dug through my emails and found the original key for Windows and for the free Media Center but if I go into the Activation window in the OS and re give it either key it gives an error that the key isn't compatible with this version of Windows.
If I give it the original W8 key that I purchased which is also on the email account that my user account is tied to, I get an 'Invalid product key' dialog box that states...
But when I type in the product key into the activation dialog it says 'Your product key works! Continue when you're ready."
If I use the free Media Center one, obviously that had an expiry date at the time, but it was redeemed originally well within that cut off date, I now get a different 'Invalid product key' dialog that states...

Anyone got any ideas please how I can resolve?

"The product key you have entered will not work with this edition of Windows 8.
You must either run Windows 8 setup or enter a Windows 8 Pro with Media Center product key."
