Windows 8 Question

I brought windows 8 when it first came out when Microsoft offered it as a download for i think £14.99. Anyway my laptop never liked it so i went back to Windows 7. When Windows 10 came out i upgraded then did a fresh install and everything is great. I still have the Windows 8 i burnt to disk, i've been building a HTPC that has no operating system, can i re use my Windows 8 on the htpc and upgrade that to Windows 10?.

does it mention that its a upgrade key or does it say OEM on it at all? reason for asking as if you activated on 1 system and its OEM it will be linked to the mobo you first installed it on too and if its a upgrade key only you may need a previous OS on their first

Is there a way to find out what version the win 8 is without installing as it was a digital download.

It should work fine, even if it's meant to be an upgrade key. You may have to use phone activation.

Use the correct place holder key if the installer rejects your key.
