Apologies for the naff title, I wasn't quite sure how to put this one.

The case in point has been the upgrade of my server from Windows 8 to 8.1. I'm not sure if this is the only time it will ever happen, or if it will be a problem in the future. In this case, the Settings screen that comes up before you get to the Login screen once you've installed 8.1 doesn't actually allow you to remotely RDP in to complete the Settings, meaning I've had to hook up a local monitor and keyboard to my server to get through this.

So, is this the only time this will ever happen?
Is there a way to avoid it happening?
Is there a way to allow RDP to connect when this happens?

Cheers!

8 to 8.1 is effectively a full OS upgrade, so not surprised this happens. You need some other remote-control technology that loads early during the boot process.

Teamviewer/Dameware/VNC etc etc?

Or maybe ILO depending on the hardware.

That's fine then, if it's just a one off because of doing such a big upgrade I can live with that, I just didn't want the server going down semi-regularly because it gets stuck on a screen like that.

Thanks guys!
